Challenge # 98 “Piece it Together” – Paper Piecing

January 31, 2013 By 8UpScrapin 4 Comments

Hello Ai Fans !!
When I saw we were going to do this challenge , I knew just the stamp I wanted to use , one that would need lots of piecing , these couch girlfriends are awesome and perfect for the challenge !!Next you need a very sharp pair of scissors ( I used Cutter Bees ..love them )and the next tip is to kind very small pattern paper so it looks right on the images , the 6″ by 6″ paper packs are perfect for this and paper coordinated nicely .
Comfy on Couch set 1-31 challenge 009 I started by stamping my image with Memento ink and i chose my small print pattern paper (My Minds eye ..Lost and Found collection in Bush )
Comfy on Couch set 1-31 challenge 001next you stamp the image in the pattern paper and and fussy cut the place you want this pattern
Comfy on Couch set 1-31 challenge 002starting to come together , I also color my image with copic markers and start gluing down
Comfy on Couch set 1-31 challenge 003these are the markers I used ..another tip to make the paper piecing pop shade the pieces to create shadow , I used RV11 to shade where they cross legs and sit next to each other , they don’t run together  when you add this touch to them )
Comfy on Couch set 1-31 challenge 006next i used my oval die to cut out the image , i did not want any of the image cut off so I fussy cut those places and have them on top of the die when running thru the Big Shot , these areas will not cut off now

Comfy on Couch set 1-31 challenge 005

next I punch paper to make paper lace to go behind my cut because I don’t have a die in a bigger oval to mat it , add score tape and run paper thru a crimper and then hand gather on the score tape , I then add more score tape to the top of the lace and add another oval over the back to give a finished look and secure the lace ( no one can see but I know it’s there and done right )

This is an awesome card – there is a lot of detail going on. I love the idea of sticking parts of image outside die cut. The hand made lace adds that popping touch. The flowers set it off. I like the fold of the card, what size card is it? 🙂

    Hi Crystal,

Oh my gosh, your card is incredibly ADORABLE!!! I’ve never done this technique of stamping an image on designer paper then fussy-cutting it out but it looks like a fun technique! (Time consuming but fun!) Oh, how I love that stamp!

    Peace, Love & Joy,
    Joyce

LOVE this card Crystal! Thanks for showing how you die cut the image. Very helpful! I love the papers you used for paper piecing, so pretty! This card is so pretty and feminine! 🙂 Lovely card.
